    Kraftworks!

The Kraftworks for Kids program has been designed from the ground up to engage creative children. The activities that we offer all encourage patience, persistence, and practical skills. They are both challenging and entertaining.

All of our activities are structured around Beginners, Intermediate, and Advanced levels of capability. Our Leaders are trained to ensure that your child receives the right amount of guidance for their level of ability.

    Activities

At Kraftworks for Kids all of our activities are available every day at each of our locations. If your child is interested in any of the activities that we offer then we have the Leaders and the kits to ensure they have fun!

Our main activities include Figurine Painting, Jewellery Making, Plasterkraft, Scale Modelling, and Stitchery. Any spare time is occupied by Kumihimo and Origami. When we take a break we play awesome boardgames.

  • Fun!

    Fun!

We developed the school holiday program that we wanted our children to attend. A program for creative kids that would encourage their creativity as well as develop their practical skills while having fun with their friends.

It is important to us that kids attending the program have fun. If they are having fun then they are engaged by the activities. If they are engaged by the activities then they are learning new skills and developing existing ones.

Apprentices
What have we got for the 5 - 7 year olds?

For the Apprentices we have three construction-kit based activities:

K'Nex

K'Nex is an American construction toy system. First sold in 1993 each box contained interconnecting rods and connectors. Since then the system has been expanded to include wheels, gears, and even motors. K’Nex Rods come in a range of lengths, each length having a distinct color. When the additional length of connections is taken into account, the ratio between successive lengths of rods is v2/2. This simplifies the construction of right-angle isosceles triangles, and these triangles provide structural strength in models. Most types of K’Nex rods are only very slightly flexible, but there are extra rigid and very flexible versions of some of the longer rods. K’Nex Connectors also come in a range of types, each having a different number of slots. They can link the rods together in different ways. The first way is to insert the end of a rod into a slot on the connector, where it snaps firmly into place. Rods connect at angles which are multiples of 45 degrees. The second method is to snap the rod into one of the connector slots perpendicular to first method. The rods cannot rotate and will not move without deliberate force. The third way is to slip the rod through a round hole in the connector. The rod can slide and rotate freely while in the hole.

Lego

Lego is a popular line of construction toys manufactured by The Lego Group, a privately held company based in Billund, Denmark. The company's flagship product, Lego, consists of colourful interlocking plastic bricks and an accompanying array of gears, minifigures and various other parts. Lego bricks can be assembled and connected in many ways, to construct such objects as vehicles, buildings, and even working robots. Anything constructed can then be taken apart again, and the pieces used to make other objects. Lego began manufacturing interlocking toy bricks in 1949.

Zoobs

ZOOB is an award-winning building set with a difference—the pieces move after you put them together. So you can play with your creations, instead of just looking at them. Although we provide instructions and suggestions for models to build, we think the best part of playing with ZOOB is exploring, inventing, and discovering how you can build what you want to build.
ZOOB has 5 pieces that snap together 20 ways, so you won’t need any special pieces to build anything that you want to build. Because it’s so easy to use and so versatile, we think it’s the best open-ended building system on the market (of course we do!).
ZOOB’s shape is inspired by the nucleotides (the basic structural units of nucleic acids) that make up DNA. Based on the way things connect, move and transform in nature, ZOOB captures dynamic movement, unlike traditional “stacking” or “hub & spoke” construction sets.
There are as many ways to have fun as there are ways to learn from ZOOB, and it’s this integration of learning and play that makes it so appealing in today’s toy market. Like crayons or clay, ZOOB allows kids (and adults) to learn, explore and create using their imaginations. And if they can imagine it, ZOOB can help animate it . . . from dinosaurs to DNA strands, from animals to aliens.

Apprentices may attend one three-hour session on any given day.

Figurine Painting
A broad selection of figurines from the largest manufacturer in the world

The Figurine Painting activity is based around a particular figurine rather than a kit. The figurines are categorized as Beginner, Intermediate, or Advanced. All Beginner figurines come with step-by-step instructions. These instructions detail precisely how to paint the figurine, covering both colour selection and the techniques to use in each step. These figurines also come pre-based and undercoated. Intermediate and Advanced figurines come straight out of the box. Some assembly is often required and all figurines have to be based. The student will plan their colour selection, prepare the figurine, assemble the figurine, and base the figurine -- before touching the paint. If this seems like a slow process that is because it is a slow process. Intermediate figurines take a day to produce - and require all of the skills learned through the Beginner figurines. It is for this reason that we do not allow students to tackle Intermediate or Advanced figurines until they have demonstrated their competency with the Beginner figurines.

Apprentices may attend one three-hour session on any given day.

Jewellery Making
Kits designed to teach and challenge

Our Jewellery Making kits are designed to teach various skills through the completion of each kit. The Beginners kits cover the basic techniques of stringing beads in order to make necklaces, bracelets, chokers, and earrings. The Intermediate kits cover a variety of techniques for stitching beads. Stitching itself is not particularly difficult but the patterns are complicated - and any mistake is very obvious. In addition the beads involved are very small. As a result we ensure that any student is proficient in beading before they move on to stitching. Our Advanced kits introduce students to wire working in the form of chainmail. Chainmail patterns are quite complex and the techniques require precision and strength in the fingers.

We have a wide variety of Jewellery Making kits available each with variations based on colour.

Plasterkraft
Awesome Kits for Awesome Kids!

Plasterkraft is our most popular activity. These kits consist of a variety of casts which, when glued together, make a room or a building. It is a bit like Lego, except you glue the pieces together permanently. Once the kit has been assembled it can be painted.

We have a wide variety of Plasterkraft kits. Below is our current catalogue.

Patience

Patience is not an absence of action; rather it is "timing" it waits on the right time to act, for the right principles and in the right way.
